AHEAD Series

The “AHEAD” series is designed as a “vehicle” for disseminating research conducted within the CRC in Health Administration (HEAD), involving faculty members from the SCIBIS department (main hub), as well as DEMM and Beccaria.

Within the CRC, numerous research studies and action-research projects are underway, which may lead to the publication of scientific books, “influential” texts, and professional manuals designed for the academic community, NHS professionals and the healthcare sector (managers and clinical/care leaders), as well as institutional and political decision-makers.

The topics related to the healthcare-management nexus are highly relevant in both academic and professional debates. The Italian healthcare sector is undergoing profound transformations, including the growth of private providers, the vertical integration of insurance companies, NHS reforms, consolidation among service providers, unprecedented technological innovation, and intertwined ethical and economic issues. The audience interested in these topics is steadily growing, further driven by the increased awareness brought about by the recent pandemic.

The CRC HEAD’s connections with the healthcare sector provide numerous opportunities to promote the works published in the series and to expand and strengthen UNIMI’s strategic and institutional positioning as a regional and national reference point for healthcare economics, management, and policy.

The series is designed to host works aimed at:

  • Managers of public and private healthcare organizations
  • Entrepreneurs in the healthcare sector
  • Policy-makers of the NHS/RHS and the healthcare sector
  • Clinical and healthcare profession leaders
  • Researchers and academics interested in healthcare economics, policy, and management
  • Executives and professionals from companies operating in the healthcare sector (pharmaceutical firms, medical devices, insurance companies, etc.)

The title of the series is intentionally “AHEAD” to emphasize the level of innovation that characterizes the topics of management, economics, and healthcare policy covered within it. Always “ahead,” at the forefront, pushing the boundaries of knowledge.

AHEAD publishes both books and working papers. Books are full-length monographs, while working papers provide timely publication of scientific analyses on the healthcare system and its ongoing transformations. These works can contribute to current debates and play an influential role in policymaking, the governance of the Italian NHS, and the work of European institutions.
