Silvana Castaldi earned a degree in medicine and surgery from the University of Milan, specializing in hygiene and preventive medicine in 1991. She earned a MSc degree in health planning and financing from the London School of Hygiene and Tropical Medicine and the London School of Economics and Political Sciences. She is associate professor of general hygiene at the University of Milan, Department of Biomedical Sciences and Heath, where she teaches under- and graduate courses. She is head of the Quality, Internal Audit, and Privacy unit of the Fondazione IRCCS [Scientific Institute for Research, Hospitalization, and Healthcare] Ca’ Granda Ospedale Maggiore Policlinco di Milano.
Her fields of interest include healthcare organization, clinical risk, healthcare-associated infections (HAI), appropriacy, and quality. She is currently director of the graduate program in hygiene and preventive medicine and president of the healthcare program at the University of Milan.
